Frequently Asked Questions

  • Great! I have a whole FAQ page specifically about falconry and owls here.

  • Four. There will be four main books.

I am an avid planner and outliner, so I already know all the big, important plot points that will happen in each book. That means I’m not going to extend or shorten the series. You can count on four main books.

  • As soon as possible, which will still be a matter of months at this point. I apologize for the wait. Don’t worry, it will come out in 2025. You don’t have to wait a year.

  • I wrote a whole article about that question here!

  • Hm, about three months; usually a little less. I’m kind of slow as far as actual word count-per day goes, but slow doesn’t matter when paired with persistence. My first novel took me nine months. My fastest was 29 days for writing a 142,000-word novel. That will never happen for me again, but it sure was a rush.

Keep in mind, that’s only the amount of time it takes to write a book, not the amount of time it takes to get the book through all the different editing, formatting, and designing steps necessary for it to actually be in your hands. That’s a whole different conversation!

  • May I give you a short list?

    Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

The Story Girl and The Golden Road by L.M. Montgomery

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud

    Nickolas Nickleby by Charles Dickens

The Homeward Bounders, Archer’s Goon, and Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis

  • I’ve found my main criteria for things I like to do in my spare time is anything where I feel accomplished when I’m done. Baking, for instance, where there’s a tangible end product, or playing the harp, where I can see my progress on learning a new song or improving my technique.

  • Another thing I wrote an article about! Here.

  • Uh huh. The villain who died a gruesome death was based on you.

  • Cornflakes. Period. End of Story.

That’s why Cyrus likes cornflakes, actually. I’ve always loved dry cornflakes as a snack, and a lot of people have always thought that was weird. So, I thought it would be funny to give Cyrus one of my goofy little quirks. Many bowls of dry cornflakes were consumed during the writing, editing, and formatting of Cloud Bear

Maybe someday I’ll write a story where the main character loves black licorice.
